Montserrat

Making our way out of Barcelona for the morning, we headed for the sacred mountain of Catalonia. Ascending the staggering rock formation we admired its spectacular panoramic views before arriving at the ‘Basilica Real’. Here people flock to touch the shrine of the Black Virgin Mary. Montserrat is a Benedictine Monastery where monks still inhabit. It has inspired religious pilgrimages since the Middle Ages. We passed many devotees who hike from Barcelona. They leave Barcelona at 8pm in the evening, trek overnight and arrive at Montserrat in time for the 10am service. Yet another wonderful experience.
